Read the 3 Vol. set of books "Kinfolks" by William Curry Harllee, pub 1935. It is out of print but most large Libraries have the set.
James Adair, a doctor and author lived in NC in 1700s. He lived for a time among the Indians and in 1755 published "The History of the American Indians" I decend from his daughter, Elizabeth, who married John Cade. Let me know if you find your roots in Kinfolks!
