I have been trying to follow through on the John KNOX / Adair connection.
It started with my seeing that he stayed in a castle for 3 nights for a meeting and Adair family were noted.
In the KNOX genforum message 487 it gives his wife's lineage.

Lady Margaret Stewart (2nd dau.,note the 2nd dau., of Andrew Stewart , 2nd or 3rd Lord Ochiltree, the dates do not match ) m. March 1654 John Knox.

"Burkes 1852" Adair of Bellgrove -
Sir Robert Adair (also in "Playfairs")
m. Arabella Stewart, dau of Rt. Hon. Robert Stewart "Good Lord of Ochil-Tree".
If Lady Margaret and Arabella Stewart were sisters then perhaps Sir Robert Adair was b-i-law of John Knox, The Presbyterian Reformer.

It stated also that Capt. James Stewart, 2nd son of Lord OCHILTREE was b-in-l of John Knox (the Reformer). James was elevated to E of Arran in 1581 (again I think the dates do not match).

However, it is interesting sorting out the puzzle.
