There was a townland of Ballygowan in county Down, Barony of Mourne, Parish of Kilkeel,
Poor Law Union of Kilkeel, Dist. of Ulster.
John S. Moore lived c.1836 at Shannon Grove, Kilkeel (Parish & Town). This may be the tie-in between the Town of Ballygowan and the name Moore.

There were 10 townlands by the name of Ballygowan in the Province of Ulster.

There was also Ballygowan in co. Down, Parish of Moira, Union of Lurgan near townland of Hillsborough which I believe some other Adair was researching.

Also at Ballygowan, co. Down, Union of Banbridge other name associated with the Adairs were Crawford, Stewart, Weir and McClelland.

There were two Ballygowan in the Barony of Lower Belfast, both in the Union of Larne.
The McAuley family were at Larne whom some Adairs may have been researching.

In the Barony of Lower Belfast there was also co.Antrim, Parish if Killead, townland of Ballyrobin on which lived Peggy Adair 70yrs and the Robert Adair family.

Townland data base is at

Townlands, etc. can be looked up in book c.1836 which has been reprinted:
Topographical Dictionary of Ireland" by Samuel Lewis. ISN (vol I) 0-8063-1061-8;
(vol II) 0-8063-1062-6
