While you haven't responded specifically to my message, I do see you are providing links for further research into the Acres lineage.
My first name is William and I apparently come from a line of Williams, with the exception of my Dad who is Thomas Donald Acres.
I am interested in learning the specific history of my line, back through Ireland, England, and earlier.
I had seen a documentary some years ago---and read similar descriptions in books---of one of the Christian Crusades whose leader was named Acre, and thus the town in the mid-East where he and his Crusade settled finally was renamed to Acre (also found on some maps and references as Acri, Akka, and Accho).
I would love to learn more about the original occupation that led to the name change. Apparently, the city of Acre has been a key trading post in the mid-East.
A friend of mine who is extremely knowledgeable in matters of Christianity, faith and religion, in addition to enjoying a knowledge of history, says it appears the city of Acre is very nearby a vast plain which Napoleon Bonaparte once visited and proclaimed would make the ideal ultimate battlefield (and he should know!).
Anyway, here are a few web links that might be of interest to some of you. If anybody has any other sources (even non-Internet sources) of this kind of information, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
