Hi Rebecca: Great to hear from you. From what I know we are related about four ways through the following lines:
We descend from the following common lines
1. Alan Acree and Drucilla Whitfield
2. George Kesler and Mary Polly Miller
3. William Terrell Martin and Lavinia Miller [son of John Catlett Martin and Elizabeth Terrell].
4. Zachariah Martin and Rebecca Brooks through son James Martin Sr. JP of Franklin County, GAand wife Rachel Headen/Hayden, then through James Martin Jr. and Catherine Wheeler.
Your father Walter Richard Acree, also a dear friend of our family, was the son of Robert Walker Acree and Sadie Isbells [related to us several ways as well]. Mary Bob Hobgood'would be a sister of Richard, your father, and Bobby would be your first cousin. Robert Walter Acree was the third child of James Clayton Acree and Frances Elizabeth Kesler, daughter of James and Francis Martin Kesler [ in the line of both George Kesler and William Terrell Martin]. James Clayton Acree was the son of James Acree and Martha Martin. James was the son of Alan Acree and Drucilla Whitfield. Martha was the daughter of James Allen Martin Jr. and wife Catherine Wheeler.
James Clayton Acree was the double first cousin of James Knox Acree, who was the son of William Acree [brother of James Acree above, both sons of Alan Acree and Drucilla Whitfield] and Mary Catherine Martin [sister of Martha Martin, both daughters of James Allen Martin Jr. and Catherine Wheeler]. James Knox Acree married Nancy Catherine Banks, daughter of Russell Banks 1819-1864 and Mary Yarbrough. James Knox Acree had about 10 children, one of whom was my grandmother Retha Jane Acree, who married Zack Martin, son of Derrell Andrew Martin and Julia Kesler, with Derrell the son of Williiam Terrell Martin and Lavinia Miller, and Jula the daughter of George Kesler and Mary Polly Miller. Both Lavinia and Mary Polly were the daughters of James Miller and Adenia Dolba Mayson.
Retha group up at Currahee Mountain across from Mark Wilkinson's lumber company. Mary is a cousin through Derrell Andrew Martin and Julia, as well as Catherine the sister of James Knox Acree, and through my line of Garrisons at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
My father looked very much like Jack Knox Acree as well as your dad Richard, not surprising since we are related so many ways. I imagine that James Knox Acree and James Clayton Acree must also have looked very much alike, and are often confused since they were double first cousins. If you and I were to compare our FTDNA Family Finder, we would be related so many ways that it would probably register as a first cousin.
We have the family Bible which lists all the siblings of my grandmother, as well as photos of her on the porch with her parents in the same house now owned by the Wilkinsons. I also have individual pictures of James Knox Acree and Nancy Catherine Banks, as well as her mother Mary Yarbrough. My cousin Dr. Dan Martin has the Acree Bible in Memphis. My sister Julia Nancy Martin was named for her great grandmothers Julia Kesler Martin and Nancy Catherine Banks Acree.
I have sent you an email, and look forward to sharing information. My Aunt Fay thinks the world of you.
