An Acree Surname DNA Project has been initiated to evaluate (1) the extent to which Acree males in the U.S. relate to one another and (2) the possibility that many Acrees living in the U.S. share a common colonial/immigrant ancestor who came to America from the British Isles in the 17th or early 18th century. The project will compare Y-Chromosome ("Y-DNA") markers that fathers pass to sons. Males with the surname Acree (and close variations, including Acre, Acres, Acrey and Akre) living in the U.S. and abroad are encouraged to participate.
