Acree Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Shannon,
Martha Irene would at best be 50% Indian. A male Acree would have had to unite with the Native American. Cherokee tunrs up alot but there have also been other tribes mentioned. It is more likely that she was 1/4 Indian. If she fits where I think she does she would have had an Indian grandmother around 1850 + or - 25 years. Physical traits that are often mentioned as tall, sturdy, dark hair that turns a beautiful silver. My Acree aunts that were a child of an Acree were tall (6ft), strong boned, with dark hair and blue eyes. The Acree family members live long lives. Even those born in say 1890 lived 70-80 years. My Dad is knocking on 80. A good number of Daddy's Aunts lived into their 80's. Heart disease and cancer are the two prevalent causes of death. Most Acrees were landowners and farmers having been given large tracts after the Revolutionary Was in which they fought.
My Dad started me on this journey. He wanted to know more about his granmothr and grandfather. The internet has made this so much easier. However he does not understand computers and still would rather go to the Courthouse and get copies of documents he wanted. New information comes out daily. Someone out there knows where the Indian madian entered the family if she did.
