Rudy Prieto Acosta, 76, of Indio,CA died Dec. 15, 1999, at Monterey Palms in Palm Desert, CA. He was born Nov. 13, 1923, to Jose Concepcion and Isabell Prieto Acosta in Colton, CA. He married Esther Avila Acosta on Nov. 11, 1944 in Yuma, Ariz. He was owner and operator of C.V. Furniture in Indio for 35years. He was the first Hispanic president of the Indio Chamber of Commerce and was president of the Downtown Indio Merchants Association. He was the Riverside County representative for the Office on Aging as well as one of the founders of the Indio Tamale Festival. He was board president of the Indio Senior Center and had been a reserve Riverside County Sheriff deputy. He was past president of the LULAC, League of United Latin American Citizens, and a past Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop #50. Survivors include his wife, Esther; two sons, Joe of Palm Springs, CA and Rudy of La Quinta, CA; two daughters, Marie Flock-Cottam of Bermuda Dunes, CA, Alice of Oceanside, CA; two brothers, Jose Anselmo of Flagstaff, Ariz., Daniel P. of Fontana, CA; two sisters,Leonor A. Rodriguez of La Quinta and Dora A. Lopez of Indio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Margarito and a sister,Josephine. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a service at 6 p.m. Sunday atOur Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Indio. Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual HelpCatholic Church in Indio. Burial will be in Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella.
