Hi! I'm a little confused. 1st, my maiden name is Darnell, the line goes back thru James Edward, Robert, Robert, Joseph and then William (Capt Billy). My gggreatgrandfather was a brother to David Young Darnell (Darnall).Allied families m'd to these men included Acocks, Brooks, Bird (Byrd), Canada (Canady), Champion,Cotten, Crockett,Cunningham, Hawkins, Freeman,Payne, Peak, Powell, Rice and Van Nuys (Vanice). All have apparently inner married not only within their own families, but have with almost every generation had at least one family member who married into various Native American tribes. With Lucinda and David, my understanding was that Lucinda's maiden name was Hightower, but that her father's name was Acorn (my understanding is thatin Native American culture, it is a matriarchal not a particaral line- they go by their mother's name, not there father's--just a little side comment- 'you go girls'). Lucinda's father was perhaps a chief or sub-chief with the Cherokee name of Gulaequah.(But since white's can't pronounce some syllables well, the 'whites' called him Koolequah, or Big Acorn). My question is this, are we talking about the same Lucinda? My Lucinda P (which I found to be for Peak) would have been a Hightower (her brother was Ben). My Lucinda's husband, David, came from N.C. (Mecklenburg). Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Katie
