This posting has given me information I did not have. I didn't have a first marriage for Joseph, and was wondering if you would mind posting where the information came from???? I find it to be extremely possible/probable that he was. And knowing this set of Acklins, odds are 99 to 1 that Elzira's middle name was Vance. Shannon & I transcribed Joseph's will, though Shannon has a copy of the real thing. It does not list any children other than the four he had with Sarah Unk. The words in parentheses are my best guesstimate of what they were, it was not the easiest to read in some spots.

I Joseph Acklin of Franklin Cty in the State of Tennessee do make this my last Will and Testament.
Item 1st I direct that all my just debts be paid out of my personal Estate in such a manner as my Executors may ___ most for the interest (of) my Estate real and personal.
Item 2nd I leave my wife Sarah Acklin during her lifetime or widowhood the negroes Dick Dinah (Malinda) (with) ___ of such a part of the personal property as may be necessary for the support and comfort of her and her children together with their education. Item 3rd I give my daughter Kezia Syrus Nance & Julia.
Item 4 I give my daughter Elizabeth Tom Claressa & Mariah.
Item 5th I give my daughter Mildred Wesly Luther Phedora & Paralee.
Item 6th I give my son Joseph James Pauline & David
all the (residue) of my property I direct to be equally divided between my four children above named.
I hereby constitute and appoint (Sam?) Wilson & James Sharp of the State of Tennessee Executors of this my last Will
& Testament. In winess whereof I have hereto set my hand and (Seal) this the 25th of March 1841.
