Joseph Acklin, probable son of Christopher & Christian (Black) Acklin of Washington Co., VA. Joseph married & resided in Virginia until between 1806-1810. Joseph & wife had at least one child, Elzira b. 1805. He may have also had a son b. 1790-1800. In 1810, 1811 & 1812 Joseph is taxed for 160 acres of land in Madison Co., Mississippi Territory (now Alabama). Joseph probably remarries about 1819 to Sarah, b. 1790, and appears to start another family consisting of children Elizabeth, Mildred, Keziah and Joseph. In 1830 & 1840, Joseph is located in Winchester & “past mountains,” respectively, in Madison Co., TN. His will of 1841 names children Elizabeth, Mildred, Keziah & Joseph. (Does anyone have a complete transcription of said will?) Does Joseph name just minor children? In 1850, his daughter, Elzira is living next door to her widowed (step?) mother, Sarah. 1850 U.S. census District 10, Franklin Co., Tennessee: 1181/1181 Steel, Andrew J. 50M C.P.
