Caron: Hello! my great grandmother Nancy Susan Derrick Kirkland was a granddaughter of Wm Derrick (born ca 1795 in Sevier Co, TN)..his family was part of the large, wealthy colony of Germans who settled in the Brownsboro/Maysville/Bell Factory area of Madison County beginning in 1809.. One Wm and Martha Derrick had a daughter, Mary Ann who married Edward Acklin in Madison County, Al.. Mary Ann died ca 1839 and was buried beside her mother, Martha Derrick..the cemetery is described in Dorothy Scott Johnson's cemetery book.. (probably near Wess Taylor Road and Jordan Rd in the Brownsboro area. I believe Wm Derrick then moved to near the Acklin Plantation near the Old Huntsville Airport (burial place of John Hunt). Many of our Derrick's went on to Coryell Co and Lamar Co Tx. early. Others settled in Kennemer's Cove in what is now Marshall County..Word Mountain and Gunter Mountain are nearby- overlooking the valley..the Derrick and Word families are still very well represented in Jackson County..I would like to know more about the Belmont Derrick's. Stay in touch..
