Hi:
I agree with you that the Christopher cited by Summers is likely the father of Christopher who went to Washington County, VA. Christopher, born 1745, would be way too young to be part of this military unit.
I am currently pulling together all the Acklin information I have and want to share it with everyone, but a few pieces of information are quickly at hand:
1. My great-great Aunt Annie Acklin Webb (great granddaughter of Joseph & Nancy Kimber Acklin)undertook some genealogy work and in her notes she indicated that Joseph was 3 generations from John Acklin (Master of the Paul of London) and 4 generations from Lionel (also Master of the Paul). Aunt Annie suggested that Joseph's father was Christopher and his mother Jane.
2. I reviewed a film in Salt Lake City for the vestry records of Frederick (VA) parish. A Christopher Acklin is listed as one of the poor in 1775 & 1777 - during this time, Christopher of Washington County VA was writing letters and being a constable in Washington County. Additionally, between 1764-1774, Christopher Acklin was suing people in Frederick County (Order Books). My guess is that he was unsuccessful in getting paid, eventhough he won the lawsuits, and became destitute?
3. In 1785, Christopher, Joseph & Samuel Acklin signed a petition in Yohogania County, VA (now southwestern PA) - could this be Christopher Sr. and two of his sons?
4. A Jane Acklin is buried at Heistersburg/Roberts Cemetery in Fayette County, PA with the son of Joseph & Nancy -- there are no dates, but a transcription indicates she was 105 years old. Joseph lived to be 103, so perhaps there were "good" genes in the family! Could this have been Joseph's mother? Did Christopher & Jane follow/lead some of their sons to SW PA?
5. Finally, I've found a record of a Christopher Acklin in the Trenton, NJ area in 1734 as a debtor to the estate of John Ferguson (NJA 30:174) - could the Virginia family have originated in NJ?
I have some other records for Acklins in Frederick County, VA and then in southwestern PA, and would be delighted to compare notes with you or anyone who is researching the family. I've been focusing on Acklins and would very much like to try to solve the problem with everyone.
