In the book, Early Settlers of Alabama and Mississippi, there is a longish piece full of reminiscences of George T. McGehee whose father fought in the Texas Revolution and who married Sarah Cherokee Woods. There is a reference in this book suggesting that Elizabeth's father was John Hunt who built the first log home in what is now Huntsville, AL. That is not exactly confirmation but it's what we have. Joseph's sister, Sarah Vance, was my great-great-grandmother (she married Charles Lewis McGehee). Thanks for your help.
