I am the great-grandaughter of William Acklin, (marrried to Rebecka Alexander) died in Mountain Home Arkansas about 1955, son of Theodore and Frances. My mother always told us that Grandpa Will always said that the Acklins were Dutch by way of the "Islands". Not specifying what islands. However, please note that there is a group of islands in the Bahamas called "Acklin Islands". I have been unable to find out who these island are named after. I found an Acklin born in 1833 in Missouri or Ohio in 1833 whose mother was reportedly from the Virgin Islands. She could be Theodore's sister or cousin or aunt. Please note also there was a Dutch gold medalist bobsledder in 1994 whose name is Acklin. Surely this must be evidence pointing to a Dutch history.
