Our branch of the family was apparently somewhat dysfunctional, the "black sheep" of the Ackermann line, I guess. Anyway, we are not a close family, and all our elderly relatives who might have information are pretty much dead for many years now.
Anyway; my father was John Jospeh Ackermann. He had a brother named William (Billy) of Flatlands, Brooklyn, a brother "Buddy" (perhaps William?) of Marine Park, Brooklyn, married to a Kay Waltman; one son, Billy. John also had a sister, Margaret, of Gerristen Beach, Brooklyn, who married someone named Larson and had two children, Judy and Linda.
My father married Edyth Doremus, and had five children, in order of eldest to youngest; Thomas Micheal (deceased), Katherine (no longer speaking to each other), Kevin (deceased), Lynn (currently of Marine Park, Brooklyn) and myself, John J. Ackermann (dropped the junior in 1978, when my father died, and currently of Santa Cruz California).
I wish I had more information than that, but we were not a close family. I only remember seeing a picture of my father's mother once or twice, a rather fat lady named either Agnes or Anna. I *think* my paternal grandfather's name was William or Wilhelm, but not too sure.
The Ackermann's of my line in Brooklyn, as far as I know, were centered in the southern part of the borough, in Bergen Beach, Flatlands, Mill Basin, and Marine Park. Pretty much the lower end of the Ackermann clan as far as I know; my father was an alcoholic, and I believe some of his brothers were as well. Margaret, as far as I know, was not.
Thanks. I wish I could find someone related to me; I'm starting to think that besides my brother Tommy's kids, I'm the last one of the Brooklyn Ackermanns.
