I just found you guys. I am from Benjamin Akerman 1635 Portsmouth, NH. My greatgreatgrandfather was Hon. Amos Tappan Akerman (President Grant'sAttorney General). I have very extensive genealogy on the family from about 1660 in Portsmouth, NH, but have only a story about how the Akerman family came to America. The story came through my grandfather who learned it in WWI while in France and England.
If anyone comes across any of the Portsmouth Akerman's I would love to share.
The "c" has never been in our name.
