I just got this info, It may be of interest to you:
Rev. 10/98: Info from[IT:Biographical directory of the Senate of the State of SC, 1776-1964IT] pub by the SC Archives Department, 1964.
"ACKERMAN, James David, Senator from Colleton County. Born August 1, 1847 in Cottageville. Attended local schools. married Mary Ackerman. Served in Confederate Army as a very young man. Planter and sawmill operator at Cottageville. In militia, first lieutenant, 1877, and captain, 1887 of 2nd Regiment of Mounted Rifles. County commissioner, 1907, SC Senate Colleton 1910-1914; resigned November 2, 1914 to become sheriff, serving until 1916. Died November 2, 1924 at Cottageville; buried in Cottageville Cemetery.
I also ran accross info re a James A. Ackerman married Mary Ellen Willis daughter of Abraham Willis and Anna Wilson Adams . Anna was born1814 died 1889. Don't have any more on either James A. Ackerman or Mary Ellen Willis
