Edwin Murry Ackerman died in the Civil War and is buried in the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak, near Cottageville, SC.He donated the land for the cemetery. He was the son of Stephen Oliver Ackerman (my gg grandfather) and Elizabeth Rebecca Koger who are buried in the Gruber Cemetery on Hwy 61 about 4 miles east of Canadys, SC and the grandson of Stephen Ackerman and Sarah Luter.Stephen is also buried at Gruber Cemetery. The marker reads Stephen Clyde Ackerman. There is no record which proves his name was Clyde but it was the best guess of B F Ackerman who placed the marker. There is no record of ancestors beyond Stephen Ackerman and Sarah Luter who immigrated from Germany about 1745 (guess)
Stephen Oliver Ackerman and Elizabeth Rebecca Koger had a son, Stephen Oliver Ackerman (my ggrandfather) who married Sarah G. Dandridge who are buried at the Cottageville Methodist Cemetery.one of their sons was Joseph A. Ackerman who died in the Civil War and is buried at the Ackerman Cemetery. His brother, George Washington Ackerman, was my grandfather. He died unmarried.I have a copy of a letter he wrote to his mother,
Sarah Dandridge Ackerman, while he was in the War.
Sarah Dandridge Ackerman, while he was in the War.
I don't have a record of James A. Ackerman.Hewas not in my direct line.
