Alfred was my great-great-great grandfather. His son Amos was a Baptist preacher from Tuscaloosa who came to Texas in 1852. Most of the Ackers here in Texas are decendents of Alfred. Alfred's grandfather, Peter, came with his family from Germany in 1752. That is as far back as my book goes. I have an Acker family tree book compiled by Noble Acker of Arlington, TX. He created a database of all of the Peter Acker/ Jane Southerland decendents he could find and collected family stories along the way. I would be happy to share what I have or I could get the book (over 500 pages) copied and send it to you (about $32.00 including postage. Alfred and Rachel had 11 children. The youngest was Rachel (named after mother) who after the mother died was bonded over to Wilson Strickland by court order in 1855 (she was 12). Amos retruned to Tuscaloosa and brought his younger brother, Winder Hilman, back to Texas with him. I wonder what happened to Rachel, the sister. Did she marry Wilson Strickland? Why did Amos, a preacher, feel she was better off being bonded to Mr. Strickland? Did he think the 14 year old brother was worth saving and the 12 year old sister wasn't? When reading the book, these question struck me a begging an answer. I have a brother who is a Baptist preacher.
