John Acker, born in 1824 in Hesse Darmstadt near the Rhineland, emigrated to the US thru New York in 1850. His ship was named the Glenlion (or Glen Lyon). He settled on James Street in the Whitehall section of Northeast Philadelphia, Pa where he took up the profession of stone masonry. He married Mary Eva Becker, who emigrated in 1853. They had a son named John Francis Acker, born in 1857, who became a glass mouldmaker. There were also son's Frank, Henry (possibly Harry), and daughter Elizabeth (who later married Charles Kappeler of Phila). I have other info for decendentsThe info on John is in the U.S. but not much on his first 25 years in Germany. He emigrated in early 1850, leaving from the port of Havre in France on an English ship. He left at a time of famine, political strife, and a cholera epidemic. Everything else about him is unknown. Any help ?
