I am looking for any information about the parents of John A. Acker, my gggrandfather. He was born 10 October 1827, in Ohio Co. Va, now near Wheeling WVa. He married Julia Celestia Cornwell 27 May 1855 at Mt. Pleasant,Henry Co., Iowa.and died 26 May 1891 at Cedarvale, Ks. He fought in the Civil War as a member of Co. D 4th Cavalry– Iowa. Family lore says his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Austria, but we've never been able to find anything to support or refute this. His wife's parents were Levi and Louisa Cornwell, both supposedly born in NY, but again no leads. Hopefully, someone out there can help.
