Silas Acker, Groveland NY, early 1800s

I have recently discovered the name and probable provenance of my paternal g g g grandfather. His name was Silas Acker. He is purported to have come to the US from Germany. He settled in Groveland, Livingston County, NY. He had a farm on the west bank of Conesus Lake. He is supposed to have had two families, my line is through his youngest son by his first wife, Samuel Young Acker, born 1827. Silas also had sons James and Newman, as well as other children.
Can anyone suggest how I might track down Silas' family. I've already consulted the available census records. Is it possible that Silas is related to Henry Acker, spouse of Sally Dunn, who was born in Groveland in 1800? I'd appreciate any help. Geof Acker
