Although I am not a descendant of the Acker family, my GGG grandfather Peter L. Walker either purchased or obtained land from Peter or Halbert Acker when he came to Pickens/Anderson, S.C. area between 1810 and 1820. We assume that he worked on the Acker land as a trade for obtaing about 68 acres of land on which he was living when we found him in the 1820 Anderson County Census with a wife and two children. The census data of 1850, 1860 and 1870 indicate that he was born in North Carolina. We have not been able find his parents nor his North Carolina birth place.
Would anyone have any information that could give us a clue as to when he obtained the land and anything as to where he came from? Also, was he married when he obtained the land? He married Mary "Polly" Nix, daughter of Valentine Nix.
