Ann, I have been most interested to read your Genforum postings on James Acheson from Cavetown, Parish of Eastersnow, County Roscommon.Your ancestor would seem to be the same James Acheson who was listed (together with a Thomas McLelland) as a witness at the wedding of my great-great grandparents John Cuttle and Ann Ekins, the wedding being solemnised at the Eastersnow Parish Church on 25 March 1852.Because of this connection, I have noted the Acheson name whenever it appeared in records pertaining to my own research on the Cuttle, Purdue and Ekins families of the Parish of Eastersnow. These records include Achesons in an 1876 list of landowners of the district, Achesons in the Griffiths valuations, and some of the inscriptions on Acheson gravestones in the churchyard at Cavetown. The gravestone transcriptions were made when my wife and I visited Ireland in August 1998; I also have a few photos of the church (which is now a ruin) and the churchyard.I expect that your own research will have progressed considerably since your first Genforum posting on 2 January 2002, when you said you did not even have the name of James Acheson’s wife, but if you think I may have some snippets of information of value to you please let me know.
Regards,
Russell Hudson.
