I'm not researching this family but noted the following obituary of Susan Heeger Achenbach.The obituary is found in the Weekly Standard Herald, Warrensburg, Johnson County, Missouri, dated Friday, Nov 17, 1916.The obit reads as follows:
Death of Mrs. Achenbach
Mrs. Susan Heeger Achenbach died at 9:30 o'clock Thrusday evening of last week at her late home, 310 East Market street.At the time of her death she was seventy-eight years of age, having been born in Kleinherboch, Bavaria, Germany, August 24, 1838.Her mother died in Germany while Mrs. Achenbach was a small child.When she was twenty years of age she came to America with her father.They settlet in Union, Franklin county, Missouri.On July 19, 1860, she was married to John Achenbach at Union.The husband died in 1885 at Union where he was postmaster at the time of his death.To Mr. and Mrs. Achenbach were born six children, all of who survive their parents: Frederick Achenbach, special commissioner for the United States treasury department at Berlin, Germany; Charles H. Achenbach, cleark in the same office;Mrs. James Thornton, of this city;Mrs. Chas A. Enslow, of Albion, Nebraska;Mrs. Charles H. Snyder, of Adair, Iowa;Miss Bertha Achenbach, at home.She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Frederick Michael, of Jeffriesburg, Missouri.The absent sons in Germany were cabled of their mother's serious condition, but, of course, it was impossible for them to come to her.The other children were present at the funeral.Mrs. Achenbach had long been a member of the Lutheran church.She was a kind neighbor and a devoted mother and lived as she professed.Our people esteemed her highly and sympathise sincerely with the bereaved relatives in their affliction.The body was taken to Union for interment in the cemetery by the side of her late husband.
