I am the 14th of 17 children born to Mariano Pacillas Azevedo and Eleanor Fierro Castanon Azevedo. My father was born in Zacatecas and he immigrated here when he was about 7 years old. His real last name was Acevedo and he wanted to "Americanize" it, so he changed it to Azevedo. I am beginning my search into the past and I am a little nervous of what I might find. Also, I am seriously considering reclaiming my "real" last name.
In 1992 I was in Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida and I had a Family Name History of "Acevedo" completed by the Historical Research Center.
The country of origin is Spain. The family crest is three ostrich plumes. One of the earliest records of the surname is that of one Diego de Acevedo Carvajal y Ulloa who held the position of Abogado de la Audiencia de Mexico in 1694. The name Acevedo is itself derived from the Spanish word "acebedo", which means a "plantation of holly-trees".
Hope to hear from you!
