Acevedo-Aguilar and Aguilar-Acevedo's (please read)
I am the grandson of Jose Antonio Aguilar Acevedo. He left my grandmother, Carmen Acevedo, when my dad was very young. He is of Puerto Rican descent, and in the 50's he was a singer who used the name "Tony Aguilar" in N.Y.C. When he left my grandmother, he moved to Chicago and no one has heard from him since. My dad was his first born, Jose Antonio Acevedo,Jr. and I would be his first born grandson. He had a son named "Edwin" who died in a house fire at around the age of 3 in the Bronx. He also had a brother named Moncho Acevedo. He moved to Chicago and remarried. He never kept in touch with my grandmother Carmen, who died in 1991.He used to hang out with Tito Puente and all the latin singers and band leaders of the 50's.My dad has never seen him since either. He once challenged Antonio Aguilar, the mexican singer to a vocal showdown in NYC and he is said to have been the dominant singer of the two at that event.I know he would love to see him.I too am a singer and when i did shows with old timers like Yomo Toro, i would ask if they knew him and to my delight Yomo was a good friend of his but it has been a long time since he saw him. I know he used to hang out at this record shop called "Casa Latina" in El Barrio. And also that he hung out with a record shop owner in the Bronx named "Mike Amadeo", who owned "Casa Amadeo" on Prospect Ave.If anyone has any information on him, please contact me because I would love to meet him and all my Acevedo family, especially in P.R. I am trying to follow a lead right now that he works for univision in chicago. Until next time, it is great knowing that there is a site for Acevedo's.
