Terry, I had forgotten that Elijah Abston is listed with a second wife, Eunice Nix, and that they had a son John. The dates I have for the marriage of Elijah to both wives is essentially the same: ca. 1788; the dates I have for the two families of Elijah overlap also. So, the problems are: 1) Are these two Elijah Abstons the same or different individuals? 2) Are the dates wrong for the marriages of Elijah and his two wives? If so, what are the accurate dates? 3) Did Elijah (like John Abston) have more than one family at the same time? 4) One source (I think James H. Smith and Paul Edenfield, but will have to check my records) states that John, son of Eunice and Elijah Abston, was married to Eliza Jennings; they had a daughter Adaline Frances Abston, b. 1822 in SC (before the youngest child of Olive and John)! I don't have birth/death dates of Eliza Jennings, so don't know if she died before John's marriage to Olive. IF... John in the above scenario is correct, then the 1840 census information you found COULD reflect John, his DAUGHTER Adaline (female 20-30) and her husband (name unknown) and their son. (this would presume that John was widowed at this point, and that his married daughter was keeping house for her father) 5) As you hint, maybe John (husband of Olive) is a different John, son of Elija and..., or a different John altogether... Your logic regarding Olive's husband John being the son of Eunice Nix is compelling. It would seem to explain the name "Nix" being used for the daughter's name. Instead of clearing things up, we seem to be back in the mud. Maybe we can get this resolved... Todd Notify Administrator about this message?
