Deborah- I don't know if you got all you need on John Abston, or his precendants but if not I can give you additional data. Siblings were Susannah, Rachel, Francis Isaac, Sr., and Nancy. Parents were Joshua Abston and Rachel Clement. His GF was Francis Abston. Prior to that is a little shaky. Some believe that the Abston line in America was derived from an English name of Abeston or Osbeston or something similar, and that Francis father was a Samuel Abston of maryland. My Abston family tradition is that the original name was Aboasson and were Hugenots who came from France to England and thence to Va. as part of a Hugenot settlement near Richmond (Manakin Towne)sponsored by British Government. A Jean Aboasson was there in 1700 and is believed to have anglicized the name to John Abston and moved to Halifax Co (just east of Pittsylvania Co)and that he is Francis father. A Margaret Abston Richardson of Kansas said that her father was told by his father that the family came from Brest France and were Hugenots and the spelling was Aboasson.
I do have more detail on the Abston clan if you are interested. My line is from John Abston's brother Francis. The family moved to TN on KY line. Other family members moved to Ky. My GGF, James A. Abston & family went to Peytonsburg,Ky to catch the train to TX.-
