A bond was posted at the time of the applicaton for marriage..It would be null and void if the marriage went off without a "hitch". I have read about it..I do remember that Kentucky retained it as I believe Virginia (KY was part of VA way back) had it also. I have something here on the bond..will check into it as I can and pass along. sometimes I have been able to find a long-lost piece of a puzzle I am working on from the name of the suretor..such as a parent of one of the couple..a family member..etc. In my case, my James Abshire who was a suretor on a "COSSLER" marriage is possibly a clue to helping to solve a puzzle I have.
