Information I know: 1850 Census, Daviess Co. KY..Joshua C. & James W. "UPSHER" are living with Louisa J. Sloan and her two young children, Mary M. and David. I do know that a Louisa J. Abshire married a James Sloan in Hancock Co. & he is probably deceased in the 1850 federal census. I also have informaton that Joshua Abshire married Jane Ann Pate, Dec. 23, 1857, Hancock Co. KY. I suspect that Louisa J. Abshire Sloan had the maiden name of Cosler and was probably married to the Abshire (possibly named James) sometime in VA (or now W.VA) very early..perhaps about 1831-1833. There are reasons why I think that Louisa J. was not an Abhsire by birth, rather she married the first time to an Abshire. It is possible that Joshua C. & James W. Abshire (Upsher) living with her in the 1850 census might be children by her first marriage.
