Any Jewish roots involved in Abreu?

My wife's mother's family was Abreu. Somehow my wife feels that she had some Jewish roots. My wife's mother lived in Guyana, but her parents apparently came from Madeira or Portugal. There were apparently a lot of Jewish Portuguese/Spanish people that flocked to or were sent to South America (and other areas of the world).I am not sure what century this took place.Anyhow, because of the fact that she seems to think that her grandparents had to leave in a hurry from Portugal, that perhaps they were pressured, hence thinking that they might have had some jewish anscestry. There happens to be a site dedicated that I found that is for Jews (and apparently many of them)that originally came from Portugal/Spain that went to other countries , hence they became Catholics/Christians. They have Portuguese names but originally were Jewish faith. If on reading this massive email has any inkling or an idea that could help me pls email me so I could help my "Thirsty for knowledge wife". Thanks
