My father and grandfather are both from La Vega. They were also named Jose Alberto Abreu. Three years ago I took a trip to the Dominican Republic and drove on the north coast and came to a town, actually it was a very samll "strip" of the road that had a "town" named Abreu between Rio San Juan and Nagua. Unfortunately I was unable to get much info as there was only one store and it was about to close as I drove by. But I have had information linking the name to the Canary Island, Portugal, Spain and France. If I get any info I will post it.
