Hi! I am researching Jesus Abreu (New Mexico 1824-1900). Today in New Mexico, the name is pronounced a-bray-o. Has it always been this way? I am not a linguist but it does not seem Portugese to me. More like French but not exactly. I have seen it as Abreau which seems more like French. Any help with the origin and pronounciation would be appreciated. Best wishes, Doyle Daves
