I ll appreciate any information about the origin of the surname Abreu. An old dictionary indicates that its origin "is fom the Valladares Village in Galicia, Spain". From here spread al over Portugal, Canary Island, Azores, etc. I was able to travel thru Portugal and most of the people questioned were sure its origin is somwhere in Portugal. There is not a known town, city or place called "Abreu". I am from Canary Island extraction. Specifically from Tenerife. One of my ancestors was Matías García de Abreu (b. 1781), north area in Tenerife. The other, Fernando Delgado de Abreu (b. ABT 1760), from the south (San Miguel de Abona). They are not related. The last fellow had about thirteen identified sibblings. All of them followed the Delgado surname, except one, Domingo Delgado that changed his surname for Abreu. This one had about nine siblings, all Abreu Reyes. All were localized in Hatillo, PR where most of his descendants are living. The genealogy from those of Hatillo is almost completed. That from Isabela is pending. My main interest is the origin of the surname "Abreu".
