Hi!I was doing research on my mother's side.My Grandmother was Candelaria Abrego. This was her maiden name.I traced her to Roma in Starr County Tx.On the online photocopy of the 1910
U.S.A.Census form,Abrego was written with an old ink pen in longhand script. You can see where the pen point skipped on the top right of the letter "r".It looks at first glance to be an "i".When I magnified the name I could see the skipping of the pen.On all other census and legal forms it is Abrego.I had accidentally found the source of the spelling "Abrigo".There were quite a few Abregos in Starr Co.and all the way to Brownsville.I was researching name by name across S.Texas.I believe this to be the source of the different spelling.I also believe all these Abregos are related.
Teaching must be genetic. My Aunt Beatrice Camacho Gomez had an American Business College in Monterey,Nuevo Leon,Mx.She and her 4 daughters were teachers there and some came to the U.S.and became professors at some colleges. My Aunt Beatrice was at one time the president of the N.L.State teachers assn. This was all back in the 1950-1960's.My Mother,Aurora Gomez Yamaguchi was a teacher for years at St.Teresa's Academy here in San Antonio.Three of my daughters are teachers from here to Wisconsin. My daughter in Houston is an assistant Principal. My wife Patricia is a teacher's aide at the public school down the road from our home. There are other Abregos I found in So.Tx.that are teachers also.I think I just Googled the name, and someone who I thought was my son with a beard appeared.I was amazed. I think his name was Adam Abrego.
Go online and Google "Todos Somos Primos".You will find a lot of familiar names. Also,"TSHA Online"(Texas State History Assn.)has a lot of Abrego lineage that played a big part in Texas and U.S.History.
I hope I will not be "history"when you get this posting.
Try Europena online to find out the origins in Spain and elsewhere. You get access to all the European Unions Libraries,Museums and the actual image of who went to the Americas and on which ship and destination during the Spanish Conquest.
Good Luck! Your "cousin",Edmund
