Henry Abrams -- land surveys
Well, I've found some more information about Henry Abrams Sr. before he went to Somerset Co., PA, namely some surveys for him in Augusta Co., VA.I have previously had the experience of trying to find the deeds that went with some surveys -- which deeds did not exist. From what I have learned, one needed to have a survey to purchase or be granted land.BUT just because someone had a survey done does NOT necessarily mean that they went ahead and got a deed for the land. For the following surveys, I have traced the outline of the tract and written in the metes and bounds. But since I can't do the drawing here, I will give a written description of the land.
Augusta Co., VA, Surveyer's Book 1, page 56:
Surveyed for Henry Abrams 110 acres of land by Smiths Creek John Harrisons land This 20th Decb'r 1751:
Beginning at three pines near a glade
North 7 degrees West 44 poles to a white oak
N 63 W 92 (crossing a small creek) to a bank of rocks
South 62 W 64 to a pine
S 43 East 80 (crossing the same small creek) to a white oak corner to Jno Harrisons land
S 9 degrees 40 poles to 2 white oak saplings
S 67 E 114 to 2 white oaks
N 3 E 160 to the beginning . . .

Augusta Co., VA, surveyor's Book 1, page 83:

While it would be nice to have the deeds that correspond to these surveys, at least it shows where Henry Abrams was living from 15 Dec 1851 to Mar 1756.
