I am a descendent of the Braham Abrahams family from England. I have done quite a bit of research on this family and have hit a brickwall. It may because of the different ways the names have been spelled. The surname originally was Abrahams but Braham was listed as maybe a middle name? When my grandfather came to the US in the early 1900's, he came as Nathaniel Abrahams. When he naturalized he changed his name to Braham. Some of the family members had their name listed on the census as Braham prior to coming to US or even marrying. So my last name is Braham. If you have any of this in your family tree I would love to know. The mystery is where did the Braham come from and why the inconsistency? There is a notation that one of my direct male ancestors was born and raised Jewish and decided and married a Christian woman and was disowned by the Abrahams family. So to distance himself, he added the Braham name. I don't know if that is factual or not. Another story is that my family is related to the Lewis family of England who owned the Lewis Department Store. So there are alot of stories but nothing I can make concrete. Thanks!
