Death of Major Abraham
Major A. D. Abraham died at his home in LaGrange last Friday after a brief illness.
The deceased was Virginian by birth but came to Meriwether n his early manhood. Several years before the war he married Miss Mollie Parham, a sister of Mr. R. S. Parham. He was a resident of Greenville for several years. He for awhile commanded a Meriwether company in the 41st Georgia Confederate regiment in Bragg's army of the West. He served most efficiently a quartermaster and was with Pemberton at the siege and surrender at Vicksburg.
Soon after the war Major Abraham sold out his Greenville and Meriwether interests and removed to LaGrange. Here he went in business with Dr. H. S. Wimbish. The firm prospered and established the LaGrange Banking and Trust Bank which has been one of the safest and most successful banking institutions in western Georgia.
Major Abraham has prospered in all his business enterprises and accumulated a handsome estate. He has accommodated his old Meriwether friends and did a large business with the people o his old county.
He was widely known throughout the state and greatly respected for his business and social character.
Major Abraham was about 67 years of age. His death will be deeply regretted not only by the people of LaGrange but those of Meriwether also.
