Hello. I am John, son of James, son of Charles, son of Harry, son of Samuel, son of John, son of Jacob Abolt. My branch of the family lived in Indiana until my grandfather left and moved to Chicago. If you have not seen it already, you might want to look over this post:

It corrects and updates my earlier posts, and has some information about Jacob.
I know nothing about the family before Jacob's time, except that Jacob was born in "Frankgonia" in Germany. I suspect that Frankgonia is Franken, which is today in northern Bavaria (though it is historically separate from Bavaria). You can read about Franken at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franconia
There is a Franken genealogical society with a website at: http://www.gf-franken.de/index_e.html. I have not contacted them but have considered sending an enquiry.
Last summer I went with my father and siblings to the cemetery in Indiana where Jacob is buried. I do not remember exactly where the cemetery is, but if you would like, I can check with my uncle and send you the name and location.
