Hello Abney Researchers: There is still much mystery concerning the lineage of William Abney's two wives, Amelia Graves adn Judith Clark. What is known is that 1) William Abney married Millie Graves in Amherst Co., Virginia,December 19, 1785. Millie bore him several children and died somewhere around 1810. 2) William Abney married Judith Clark in Estill Co. KY, July 29, 1811. They too had several children. What is not known 1) Judith Clark's maiden name. She was the widow of Joseph Clark and was born in GA in 1774. Theories have abounded that she was a Graves (and even the sister of Millie), but it is this researchers opinion (and I'm quite willing to be proved wrong by anyone with actual documentation) that the theory of her being a Graves is at best an unsubstantiated assertion and at worst pure fiction. Her first name is even in question as it is seen as udith, Julia, and Judah. The first two have the greatest amount of proof for them as Judith is the name used in her marriage to William and on a deed from William and her to their son Jonathan. Julia is found on a vital stats record from her son Wallace, and was a favorite name of several of her descendants. Judah is found on the 1850 census only to my knowledge. 2) Millie has been called the daughter of Rice Graves and Jean/Jane Young.Yet, online searchs of the descendants of Rice and Jane usually omit her name. She was a Graves, obviously, but was she Rice's daughter? Help from her descendants on proving this link would be greatly appreciated.
