I have been searching the records at the Georgia Archives, and found the following Abney notes around Jackson County:

Muster Roll: John Abney, Lieut., Jackson Co. GA June 10, 1828 - Oct. 10, 1829

Marriage Book A, p. 164: Ben Abney m. Betsy Hogan, Jackson Co., GA, Jan. 20, 1827.

1832 Cherokee Land Lottery: John Abney drew 2 lots: one in Floyd County and one in Walker County near the AL State line by Lookout Mountain.

1840 and 1850 Census: David Abney in Jackson County, GA.

Jackson County Deeds:
E. Abney to Isaih Sovall, 1/14/1837
H. Abney to Handy (?) Strickland, 2/30/1821
Ezekiah Abney to William Flannagan, 8/26/1824

Mary "Polly" Abney Kitchens, b. 9/7/1838 in Jefferson, Jackson Co., married John Edward Early.

John David Abney died in Jackson County ca. 1849, and may have been married to Martha Kilgore.

There may be more records in Jackson County, but there are not many in the Archives. These sound like the same names you mentioned. Please keep in touch in you find any additional clues!
