I would love to compare notes. My stuff is at work though so I will have to post more later, maybe tomorrow if times allows.

We are very very lucky because the documentation on the Abney family done by others is unbelievable. And what interesting stories there are. You know we even have a Pirate in the family tree? The Abney’s were English but married into my Ulster Scots family (Glenn) when My Great Great Grandfather married Elizabeth Jane Abney. My Glenn line has also been documented with great detail. My Glenns are directly descended from Robert the Bruce through his tenth daughter. I wonder if that means I can boast about having royal blood and can order my little brother to bow in my presence, kiss my ring, be my royal serf, that sort of thing. Well maybe not, but its still kind of a cool detail to know.

I do find that the farther back you go the more details were kept on family lines. The hardest research was on my own grand parents and great grand parents. They took keeping family records much more seriously a few hundred years ago than they do now, or even in the last 80 years. It’s sad too, because if it wasn’t for people like us the family history could die with us. Scary isn’t it?

Looking forward to getting back to you. David
