Okay, further research has proven that Janette Scott Talbert White and Keziah are definitely NOT one in the same. Joseph Duncan Abney married Janette 25 DEC 1851 in E. Feleciana parish, LA. From 1849-50 he was a pastor at Jersalum Bpt Church in Amite county, MS (just over the LA/MS state line from St. Helena parish where he appears in 1850 census and E. Feliciana parishes, LA). He appears on the MS River Bpt Assoc officals minutes in 1850-51. Janette Scott Talbert White Abney (who seldom used the Abney surname) states she is divoreced some 58 years on the 1910 Amite county, MS census, this would seem to indicate she divorced in 1852. Anyway, Joseph Duncan Abney left MS/LA in 1853 for good and headed west to Texas, either abandoning Janette and his daughter by her Kate Abney, or shortly after divorcing her. If he abandoned them Janette may well have filed for divorce at a later date on the grounds of abandonment-I have seen similar divorces as early as 1819 in Alabama (they were acts of state then, not county courts). Not sure how LA/MS were in regards to divorces at the time J.D.left for TX (1853)--any info on that topic greatly appreciated. Anyway, in 1874 Kate (Isabell Katherine) Abney their daughter married Jake (Jacob Harrell) Jones in Amite Co., MS and had several children and numerous grandchildren that I've tracked thus far. So, the question still remains as no marriage has thus appeared for any Abney to Keziah--did J.D. marry her, many years his junior and barely 19 in 1852 and run off to TX to start a new family, or did he marry her c1863/4 after the death of her husband Nathaniel Asa Abney, J.D.'s youngest son by his first wife?? HELP!!!!! :)
LOL
