Charlie-
James and Nancy were married in 1860 by most accounts. It appears they divorced 29 June 1881. They appear in the 1860 census, Owsley Co. By 1870 census they have 3 children - Margaret, Abner, and William. By 1880, they are separated, James is living with a ??? Lewis and Nancy is listed separately with Margaret, William and Samuel. I am pretty convinced that Nancy is either the child of Lacy/Cynthia (1850 census) OR William/Jane Abner. Both have a Nancy, both are 10. Unfortunately, both disappear from the parents in the 1860 census. Interestingly, but doesn't prove anything I guess, it appears that the Lacy/Cynthia live closer to James/Nancy - maybe means something. I have not found any additional information about either of the Nancy Abner's - re-married, death cert etc. Still looking ...
