Meaning of the name

According to the Dictionary of British Surnames, Ablett was originally French and means "little son of Abel".

The spelling of my name was originally Ablett (from Cambridgeshire) but it was changed somehow in about 1850 - just before my g-g-grandfather involuntarily migrated to Australia!
