Hi, I am Melba Ables Halbrook and in my research for my family, I have found Abell, Able, Ables, Abel, Abels. In fact, my great, great grandfather ,Joseph Ables, who was born in 1802, had a daughter (my great grandmother) who married a Richard Abell but refused to spell her name like his. Joseph (1802) had a son (William Allen Abels) whose family spells it Abels, Abel, Ables, etc. I suppose it is up to the family to spell names as they please.

In doing my research, I have found the following:
1st generation Joseph Abell born 1709 in England
2nd Richard Abell born 1735; 3rd Jeremiah Abell born 1751; 4th Ezekiel born 1780; 5th born Joseph Ables son of Ezekiel Abell; Sarah Ables born 1842; Jiart Ables born 1870 in MS; Joseph William Ables 1897 in Holmes County, MS (my dad). If this doesn't make sense and you do not recognize anyone in my line, I will be happy to share with you. Melba Ables Halbrook
