Thanks for the info. I have William Abel as born South Carolina 1781 and wfe Fannie born SC in 1785. I have William's father as Joseph Abel who died May 3, 1809. Do you know if Joseph lived in Long Canes Creek area of Abbeville Co., SC? I have documentation of a Joseph and a John Abel there in 1778 when they served on jury in Long Canes District. There is also documentation of Joseph and John serving with the SC Colonial Militia in 1780.

I am attempting to trace my line beyond James Abel, also born Abbeville 1797. I believe that he and your Joseph (William's father) may have been first cousins.
