Of course I have no document that says that Joseph Ables who married Mary Eden is the brother of James, John, Moses and Thomas Abel who came from South CArolina via Tennessee to Northeast Alabama between 1830-1840.

A book titled, " A Twentieth Century History and Biographical Record of North and West Texas", written by Capt. B.B. Paddock in 1906 addresses a James M. Able, son of James M. Able. It identifies James M. Able Jr.'s grandfather as Moses Able who was a native of Ireland who came to the United States. His children are listed Moses, Joseph John, Thomas and James.

We find these brothers in East Tennesse counties in 1830 and in Randolph Co. in 1840. Joseph Abel is lsited in the 1850 Randolph Co., AL census along with John and Thomas. Mose is identified in 1850 Cherokee Co., AL census and Jzmes is idenified in 1850 Mortality Schedule.

A posting by Catherine date: July 18, 2001, says that Joseph and Mary had a daughter, Frances, born in 1847. The 1850 census for Randolph Co., AL lists Joseph Abel (no wife) age 44 with a 3 year old daughter named Frances. Also suggest you contact Gertrude Ables-Haden (hghaden@aol.com) who is a desendant of one of Joseph's sons, John Calhoun Ables.
